| FEBRUARY 8, 2005 (LOS ANGELES, CA) – INDIE FILMMAKERS FINISH ROCK & ROLL FINANCED FEATURE COMEDY GUY IN ROW FIVE “Artists Benefiting Artists” is the catchphrase for a network of Hollywood talent known as “Underbelly,” and in addition to producing a string of fundraising concerts over the past two years, these underground artists just finished a feature film, GUY IN ROW FIVE, helmed by directors Jonathon Stewart and Phil Thurman and starring newcomer Bobby Field. “To get Underbelly off the ground, we basically just put every talented person we knew – musician, actor, painter, producer – under the same roof for a night and charged a cover,” Field says. “It was amazing to see such a wide array of artists come together and selflessly help to make the events such a huge success.” Nine huge successes to be exact, at venues from LA’s Dragonfly to The Knitting Factory, showcasing talent from local bands Slydell, Cody Marks, Poets and Pornstars, Amy Jo Johnson and nakedstar to San Diego rockers Superunloader. And, while the bands played each show as a benefit to the filmmakers, Stewart and Thurman relied heavily on their music to help score GUY IN ROW FIVE. In addition, a handful of the band members pop up in bit parts throughout the film. “These artists can sing, act, play the guitar,” Thurman comments. “The shows and the film have given them a chance to showcase all of their talents. That’s what we hoped to accomplish from the start.” Along with attracting talented musicians, the filmmakers also cast several name actors in the film. Clare Kramer (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Bring It On), Thomas Ian Nicholas (AMERICAN PIE,), Jennifer Aspen (Rondney, Party of Five), Colin Ferguson (Coupling), Rachel Miner (LITTLE ATHENS, BULLY), Joel Michaely (KISS, KISS, BANG, BANG and RULES OF ATTRACTION) and Hal Ozsan (Dawson’s Creek) round out the ensemble cast. GUY IN ROW FIVE portrays Field (who also co-wrote the film with New York writer Motrya Tomycz) as “Thess,” a wet-behind-the-ears actor convinced of his rising stardom who decides to document his last day of being an “unknown.” The film is a comedy before anything else, but it also touts a strong message at its core: Follow your dream. “I’ve never seen a film come together quite like this,” Stewart comments. “From the fundraising efforts of Underbelly, to the amount of talent we found both on-screen and behind the camera … it’s been an amazing journey.” Though GUY IN ROW FIVE is completed, Underbelly continues to rock, hosting a new show every few months.
